President Nana Akufo-Addo has inaugurated a diaper manufacturing at Bortianor in the Greater Accra Region, under the government’s flagship one-district, one-factory (1D1F) initiative.

[contextly_sidebar id=”0o4JJdwJnv51psUW6EPzG2rQZ4cOEYRd”]The company, which is being tipped to become one of the biggest diaper manufacturers in West Africa, is expected to employ over 800 workers within its catchment area.

The President, while inaugurating the project, emphasized the need for the government to attract more investors to support development projects.

“The establishment we are witnessing is about the future of our country. We have to attract to Ghana, more and more investors. People who believe that investment climate of our country is good and opportunities for investment in our country is good.”

The President also pointed out that government has plans of building two more facilities in the area.

“What it means is that the work we are doing to strengthen the macroeconomic strength of our country is not on paper. It has to do with creating investments in our country and that is why it is extremely important for government to commit itself to the macroeconomic development.”

1D1F on course

Per the promise, it is expected that every Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assembly will have a factory established to boost local economies and create jobs for the youth.

President Akufo-Addo recently dismissed critics suggestions that government was struggling in its implementation of the project.

According to him, plans to liaise with the private sector to build factories in every district is on course.

A former Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid, also defended the programme but admitted that not every district will see the establishment of a factory before the end of Akufo-Addo’s tenure.

He said it was their hope that if they are unable to create factories in all the districts as promised, successive governments would complete it.

“…President Akufo-Addo was virtually saying that for this country to improve, it is a country that we can get one district one factory, and that when he gets the power he will put in place measures to make sure that dream is fulfilled. So he may not in the four years or eight years be able to establish a factory for every district, but whatever it is, even if he is able to do 100 or 200, any successive president can continue with the projects, then [it will mean that] we are moving towards President Akufo-Addo’s Ghana beyond aid agenda,” he stated.
