Over 1200 delegates from all six wards of the opposition NDC in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency here in Accra have converged at the Englebert School at Ridge to elect a candidate for the parliamentary by-election slated on 10th January 2019.
Mr. Delali Kwesi Brempong who contested the late Mr. Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko in 2016 is among three other persons who are vying to contest the vacant seat on the ticket of the NDC.
The rest include; a former constituency secretary Mr. Ekwow Acquah and Mr. Donna Selassie Agbo.
Three persons are contesting in this election; a former contender for the seat, Delali Kwesi Brempong and a ward Chairperson Donna Selassie Agbo.
In an interview with Citi News, the NDC Party Constituency Chairman Bismark Aryeetey explained that the party is geared up for a successful internal election which will ultimately reflect in the national by-election to be held next month.
The cost of nomination forms and filing fees was GH¢1,000 and GH¢10,000 respectively, with a 50 per cent discount on the filing fees for women and persons with disability.
The by-election has been necessitated following the death of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, Emmanuel Agyarko.
Nominations for Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election slated for Jan. 10
The Electoral Commission will open nominations for the by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency on January 10, 2019.
The commission has also pegged the filing fee for aspirants at GHc10, 000.
“The nominations will be received at the Ayawaso District of the Commission from Thursday 10th January to Saturday 12th January 2019 between the hours of 9:00 am to 12 noon and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on each day,” a statement signed by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Jean Mensa added.
The Commission has scheduled to hold a by-election in the area on January 31, 2019, following the death of the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Emmanuel Kyeremanten Agyarko, who passed away in November 2018.
