There were smiles on the faces of children at Samsam Odumase near Amasman in the Greater Accra Region on Boxing Day.
This was through the annual ‘Help A Christmas Child’ initiative by Citi FM, sponsored through the benevolence of Citi FM listeners.
The project, which is under the Citi FM foundation, is part of the station’s corporate social responsibility to make children in deprived communities have a feel of the yuletide.
They were showered with freebies such as bags of rice, cooking oil, soft drinks, confectioneries, toys, books and several other items.
A Christmas party was later held for the over 300 children with lots of food and drinks to the sound of good music.
There was a display by the Ghana National Theatre together with musical chairs, sack race, and dancing competition with winners of the various activities winning prizes.
Felix Annang, a representative of the Chief of Samsam Odumase, thanked Citi FM and all other benefactors for their donation, and for choosing Samsam Odumase for this year’s project.
He said the town was elated to receive the station as it marked the first time a radio station had visited to show love to children in the town.
“We are very happy to be chosen for this celebration. This is the first time a gesture of this kind is coming to us. We thank Citi FM for spearheading this. We believe this is not the end of it all, just like Oliver Twist, we ask for such more visit. “
For 2018, the initiative was made possible from the donations of companies such as CoCa-Cola Ghana Limited, Voltic Ghana, State Transport Company, groups such as the Accra Academy 1980 Old Boys’ Association, other companies and individuals.
The station extended the gesture to Adamrobe, Manchie and Korleman as well as Sota and Abonya in 2017, 2016 and 2015 respectively.
