The counsel for the family of the victim who was allegedly defiled by a Yemen resident in Ghana, lawyer Justice Abdulai, has disclosed at a press conference that the suspect, Ould Mohammed has threatened to kill people related to the victim.
Addressing a press conference, lawyer for the victim’s family, Justice Abdulai said, the suspect acting with impunity and wielding guns in the company of his thugs fired shots at the victim’s family in an attempt to kill them.
The lawyer also alleged that brother of the victim, Belal Yussif Alsalami, is now a target for the suspect because he is the only member of the family who is able to communicate in English and has been assisting the police.
Lawyer Abdulai accused the police of shielding the suspect and compromising their professional standards.
Narrating how the victim was defiled he said, “the family of our client informed us that sometime in December 2017, the victim was defiled by Ould Mohamed Mahamoud, 54, in West Legon in Accra”.
“The issue was reported to the Kwabenya Police Station where a medical form was issued to the victim to attend a government hospital for examination”, Lawyer Abdulai Esq explained.
He added that “on the day of the event, the victim was said to have returned from school and was lured by the suspect Ould Mohamed Mahamoud into a hideout where he drugged her and forcibly had sex with her without her consent or participation”.
He said ‘’the suspect was subsequently arrested by the police somewhere in Tema Community 8 but the prosecution could not commence because the suspect’s family members petitioned the office of the Chief Imam, His Eminent Dr. Sheikh Osman Nuhu Shaributu for the matter to be settled out of court”.
The victim’s family he said did not accept the proposal and wanted the suspect prosecuted following which the Chief Imam washed his hands off the case.
According to him, “out of the defilement and the subsequent threat of death directed at the victim and her family, our client now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorders, among other physical conditions”.
He painfully stated that the suspect absconded from the jurisdiction after he was granted bail but returned to Ghana three months ago but returned ‘’like a rambo with big guns’’ with which he has threatened to kill the family with.
The lawyer said the guns being used by the suspect and his thugs have been confirmed to be arms reserved for the military and unregistered.
The lawyer provided videos, which contained footages of the alleged suspect and his thugs firing gunshots and threatening the family of the victim.
The suspect he posited has compromised the police and gets information prior to any attempt to arrest him for threatening to kill the family of the victim.
He has therefore called on authorities to come to the aid of the victim and her family and ensure the victim gets justice for the pain she has encountered.
‘’The police from Kwabenya have been to his [suspect’s] residence for more than 10 times including yesterday [Monday] and before they get there, they had already been informed… We know this because we have a recording of some persons leaking this information to the suspect and the entire family…and for more than two weeks, they have not been at their residence.
Meanwhile, the lawyer has confirmed that the victim [name withheld] was married off to another man but the husband divorced her after he discovered she [victim] was defiled.
