The youth of Akuse Township in the Eastern Region climaxed the festive season with a donation of assorted items to the Akuse prison among other activities as part of the Akuse Youth festival 2018.

The festival, which is the maiden edition, seeks to galvanize the support of all especially the youth to contribute towards making Akuse a better place.

In an interview Citi News, founder of Akuse Youth for Impact Association, Samuel Amanor intimated that development in Akuse must be prioritized.

“Our community is in ruins and we need to come together to rebuild, the purpose for which I started his initiative to mobilize human, financial and material resources to help renovate and rebuild our public schools, one block at a time…We organized this youth festival to draw the attention of all young people from Akuse, wherever they’re in the country, to come and support the rebuilding of the community so we make Akuse great again,” he said.

He further called for the support of some state agencies in the town to contribute their quota to the developmental process.

“We are starting with the rebuilding of the Akuse Methodist basic school in 2019, with our key strategic development partners pledging support – Office of the MP Lower Manya Constituency, Volta River Authority, Amanor Foundation, and the Re-branded Lady. I therefore encourage you all to support this project by donating one cement block each month, or one bag of cement each month for those of you who can afford, to enable us build a safe teaching and learning classroom block for the Akuse Methodist Basic School”.

Mr. Amanor urged inmates at Akuse Prison not to be perturbed about their current situation but rather ensure to be better persons for the state after serving their terms.

“This is not the end for you, this is only one chapter, a chapter of correction and reflection. Some of you are on the pathway to destiny. You will come out better and refined and use your experiences to build this nation. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of our nation was once in your shoes, so is Nelson Mandela of South Africa and the Apostle Paul of the Bible. Don’t give up, go through the process and come out a better person.”

Some of the activities for the festival included general clean-up at the Akuse Government Hospital, Football competition (MPs Cup), TDB Musical concert to promote home-grown underground artistes, Street Jams, and a thanksgiving service held in various churches in the community among others.
