W/R records fewer motor accident deaths in 2018

The Western Regional Office of the National Road Safety Commission recorded 689 road crashes in 2018 as against 381 cases in 2017.

The crashes involved 928 vehicles for the period as against 556 in 2017, including both private and commercial vehicles.

Statistics spanning three quarters of the year obtained at the Regional Office of the NRSC indicated there were 182 knockdowns while 118 suffered the same fate in 2017.

The records also showed that 104 individuals lost their lives due to the crashes in 2017 and a total of 97 in 2018, while 663 persons suffered various degrees of injuries last year as against 414 persons in 2017.

Nana Akua Ansah Cobbinah, Acting Regional Head of the NRSC, who confirmed the figures in a telephone interview with the GNA said the commission was poised to end the carnage on the road and entreated motorists to exercise patience when driving.

Central Region: 201 killed in 825 accidents since January 2018

201 people lost their lives in the 825 accident cases that were recorded in the Central Region from January to November 2018.

Provisional figures from the Central Regional office of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), indicate that 572 of those accidents involved commercial vehicles, while 253 were private cars.

The statistics also show that 1,321 suffered varying degrees of injury from the crashes.
