The Management of St. Dominic Hospital in the Denkyembuor District of the Eastern Region has appealed to government and the Ministry of Health to quickly reimburse it for services rendered to patients on National Health Insurance Scheme.
According to authorities at the hospital, the inability of government to pay them services rendered to their clients has been affecting the smooth running and operations at the hospital.
[contextly_sidebar id=”yBjPrJQysHrSg5FFhqNhXzD4ow2mhtsn”]The administrator of St Dominic Hospital, Rev. Fr. Kenneth Abban in an interview with Citi News at the inauguration of a new maternity ward and the expansion of the children’s ward said the hospital is still owed funds dating back to 2017.
“The delay in NHIS reimbursements and economic tariffs coupled with the recent introduction of the 30% reduction in price list of medicine policy by the government is continuously affecting the operational activities of SDH adversely. It is however sad to report that as at today, St Dominic Hospital has received only two months (January and February) of 2018 reimbursement. The other ten months of 2018 and two months of 2017 are still outstanding”.
He added, “Services have been rendered and we genuinely are due payment, in furtherance to the Government’s indebtedness to healthcare providers, since January, 2016, 10% of all reimbursable claims were withheld in the name of claim adjudication and as at date, a total of 1,308,849.60 have been withheld on the ticket of SDH which are services we have already provided to our numerous clients”.
Rev. Fr. Kenneth Abban however assured clients they will still be catered for in the midst of their continuous financial challenges.
“We are at a loss as to when this process of adjudication shall be over and payment of deserved reimbursement made however this notwithstanding, SDH continues to hold onto its vision statement which is to meet patient needs and expectations. Patients will continue to be cared for and no patient is ever denied quality service and care at SDH so we earnestly implore Government to step up to the plate and honor its responsibility to the healthcare providers for us to be able to do more”.
