The curfew imposed on the Yendi Township by the Minister for the Interior has been renewed.

The time of the curfew has however been reviewed from 5:00 pm to 7:00 am to 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.

[contextly_sidebar id=”h61Mn7Us1biv4r0j02Ba6bP9P7IozkqZ”]A statement from the Interior Ministry urged residents in the area to “exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as to the use of non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.”

The Ministry said reports indicated that there was a likelihood of high tension because of the presence of different factions and large numbers in Yendi, when it first imposed the curfew after a new Ya-Naa, Abubakari Mahama II, had been selected.

“The imposition of the curfew follows various reports gathered by security agencies indicating that there is very likely to be high tension in the township with large numbers of supporters of the various gates and factions all gathering in Yendi.”

The fears proved right as a shooting incident claimed one life just as the new Yaa-Naa begun enskinment rituals.

Two persons were arrested with assault rifles after police and military personnel took control of the situation.

Police have said investigations into the shooting are currently ongoing.

In a Citi News interview, the Spokesperson for the Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Mohammed Yusif Tanko, said surveillance in the area has also been increased.

“Investigators are still talking to them and by tomorrow we will be able to gather everything together so far as investigations are concerned and they will be charged before the court on the appropriate charges. Yendi is very calm. Police, military patrols are ongoing.”

The Yaa Naa is currently in Zohe as he continues his enskinment rituals.

He will be at Zohe for till Tuesday before moving to the Mba Dugu palace to complete the enskinment process.
