A 48-year-old farmer who took advantage of an autistic girl and sexually assaulted her at Akronwi in the Juaben Municipality has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Juaso Circuit Court.
Yaw Anim, who is a next-door neighbour of the victim is said to have followed her to a refuse dump where he forcibly had sex with the defenceless girl.
He pleaded guilty to having carnal knowledge of the victim but told the court that he did not force the victim but had her consent.
The court presided over by Mr. Yusif Assibey however found him guilty and incarcerated him accordingly.
Police Detective Princeton Peasah Darkwah, prosecuting, said the victim Abena Pokuaah, 28, lived with her mother in the same neighbourhood with the convict at Akronwi.
He said on January 8 about midday; the victim proceeded to a refuse dump about a hundred meters away from her house to attend nature’s call.
The convict who was secretly observing the victim from his house followed her to the refuse dump and forcibly had sex with her.
A witness who spotted the convict in the act reported the matter to the chief and elders of the town who invited the victim for questioning.
They later handed him over to the Peminase Police where a medical report form was issued for the victim to be examined at the hospital.
The prosecution said the report on the medical form confirmed the victim had been sexually assaulted.
The convict admitted the offence in his caution statement and was subsequently charged.
