About 605 contractors of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) who are owed arrears dating as far back as 2016 have started receiving their monies.

Parliament in 2018 gave approval for a $1.5 billion facility to enable the GETFund clear its debts, complete ongoing projects and start new ones.
The secretary for the contractors who are under the umbrella name Association of Conscientious Public Sector Contractors, Samuel Ofori Kumah said, “We’ve been informed that GETFund has started paying contractors. We’ll like to use this opportunity to thank the government and all those who made it possible for us to get our payment. We are confidently assured that the rest will be paid soon. Our expectation is that after this list, the other people will also be paid. This is a very positive development. So far as we have our money now, can also go and pay our creditors,” he said.
Last week some contractors who worked on projects for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) have called on the government to settle debts owed them since 2016.
They said the delayed payment was affecting their business.
Last year, Stania Company and Investment Limited, the contractors who constructed the Apedwa New Town M/A Kindergarten and Primary school in the East Akyem Abuakwa Municipality of the Eastern Region, threatened to lock up the school.
According to the contractors, GETFUND, which contracted them to build the school had failed to reimburse them for over two years after completing the project, which has led to the confiscation of their properties.
