The Ashanti Regional Police Command have questioned former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Joseph Yamin and a former Chief Executive for the Ejisu Juabeng Municipality, Afrifa Yamoah Ponko.

This follows the attack at the Ashanti Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) office in Kumasi which left one dead and one other injured.

The two persons were at the Police command to write their statements on the shooting incident.

After questioning, the Police searched Mr Ponko’s residence over reports he had stockpiled arms on Tuesday morning.

He told Citi News he gave “an ordinary statement” to the police.

“When I came here, it was more of a friendly kind of thing. The commander asked me my side of the story. I told him. I briefed the commander and his management team including the investigators and all that.”

Meanwhile, police are also set to search the home of Mr. Yamin after interrogating him at the regional command.

Citi News’ Hafiz Tijani sighted police escorting Mr. Yamin out of the regional command on Tuesday evening.

Police have said four alleged members of pro-NDC group, the Hawks, are suspected to be behind the attack.

A statement from the police named the suspects as Warrior, Mijinmma, Damos and Abu Taliban.

They are believed to be the men who invaded the premises of the NDC office on motorbikes shooting indiscriminately.

There was heavy police and military presence at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue earlier on Tuesday to maintain calm as some irate persons demanded the release of the body of the deceased for burial.

The police managed to calm tensions and assure that the body would be released on Wednesday.

The NDC had urged police to treat the shooting as a criminal incident amid concerns that the shooting was tied to acts of political vigilantism.

“We are saying that those who are insinuating that they are hawks or vultures or eagles and so on, we don’t care…the police should not look at party colours; they should pursue the perpetrators as perpetrators of crime, and deal with them according to the law. Whether they are from our party or they are from outside our party is immaterial. Look at what their crimes are and pursue them.”
