Government has condemned Monday’s shooting incident that occurred at the Ashanti Regional office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The incident left one person dead and another in critical condition.
A statement from the government signed by the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah expressed government’s condolences to the affected family and urged the police to speed up investigations into the matter.
“The Police in their preliminary investigations have revealed that they are on a manhunt for four persons in connection with the incident. Government expresses condolences to the bereaved family, wishes the injured a speedy recovery and urges the Police to speed up investigations to bring the perpetrators to book,” the statement said.
The government said all forms of violence must be “eschewed from all spheres of our national life.
It further called on the populace to desist from undertaking actions that create a state of insecurity in the country.
The shooting incident is said to have happened when the National Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and the Regional Executive Committee met at the office to iron out issues between some factions.
There were traces of blood stains around the premises of the office when Citi News got there on Monday afternoon.
Ashanti Region NDC condemns clash
The NDC Secretariat in the region immediately condemned the clash describing it as regrettable.
“The regrettable incident occurred while a meeting between the National Chairman, The General Secretary, a Deputy General Secretary and the Regional Executive Committee were ongoing. Some men on Motorbike wielding guns attacked a gathering outside, short indiscriminately and sped off.”
“We regret to announce that one of the two men who were shot has passed on and the other is in a critical condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH),” a statement signed by NDC Ashanti Regional Secretary, Kwame Zu added.
