Patrons of this year’s Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival will breathe a sigh of relief as plans are underway for the construction of the only road leading to the Odweanoma mountain, the site where pilots take off before landing at Nkawkaw.
The Mpraeso to Odweanoma road has been in a deplorable state for a very long time and has been described as the only thing taking away the shine off the excitement at the annual paragliding festival.
Patrons and commercial drivers who sometimes decline to ply the rocky, winding and dusty road will now commute with joy and ease as plans are far advance for the construction of the road to the Odweanoma mountain.
This assurance was given by Emmanuel Ofori Atta, the District Chief Executive Officer for Kwahu-Mpraeso at the media launch of this year’s Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival at the Mpraeso Chief’s palace.
Traditional leaders had pleaded with the Ghana Tourism Authority to ensure that the deplorable road linking to the Odweanoma mountain was constructed.
“Nananom I want to promise you that the road leading to the take-off point on the Odweanoma mountain shall be constructed and tarred before we celebrate Easter this year. This is an assurance I’m giving you because plans are far advanced with the relevant and appropriate state agencies who are in charge to ensure the construction of the road.”
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority Kwasi Agyemang also told Citi News: “the road has been an issue for a very long time but as you can see there has been some progress every year, last year for instance although some part was tarred we managed to grade some other parts to clear the road before the paragliding. It was smooth but very dusty and there was a promise to talk to the relevant assemblies to work on it”.
“President Nana Addo was here in the Eastern Region and one of the promises he made was to fix the road up the mountain so we have that firm assurance that the road is going to be fixed and we are working on that. Next week we will do the necessary follow-ups however we are very confident that this year, patrons who will be coming for the paragliding festival up the mountain will see a newly tarred road,” the DCE added.
