Former President of the National House Chiefs, Naa Professor John Nabila says naming Damango as the capital for the newly created Savannah Region is a good decision.
President Nana Akufo-Addo while giving legal backing for the creation of the Savannah Region on Tuesday named Damango as the capital of the region.
But critics have said Damango is very far from other towns in the region and thus residents in those other areas will be cut off from the center in the enjoyment of the national cake.

“Damango as the capital of the newly created Savannah Region is central enough for all the other towns because there are district assemblies to take care of the needs of some of the towns that are far away from Damango. It is a question of organisation and a question of local government management. If local government is carried out in the best way of central involvement I don’t see how this would be a problem,” he said.
The Savannah Region was carved out of the Northern Region following a massive YES vote in a referendum held on Thursday, December 27, 2018.
The districts making up the Savannah Region are Bole District, North Gonja District, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, West Gonja District, East Gonja Municipality and the Central Gonja District.
