The Head of the Volta Regional blood bank, Mr. Vincent Fekpe has decried the many challenges facing the blood bank especially the lack of vehicle which makes it difficult for the bank to mobilize blood around the region.
Mr. Fekpe noted at a blood donation event organized by MTN Ghana at the Awudome Senior High School that many challenges including limited understanding on the part of the general public about blood donation, peoples’ interest in donating only for money, and also the lack of a dedicated vehicle with which the bank will go organizing blood donor campaigns.
As part of commemorating this years chocolate day [February 14], the MTN Ghana foundation organised a blood donation exercise in Tsito Awudome to aid the Volta regional blood bank in shoring up its blood levels.
The event which was held at the Tsito Awudome Senior high school saw scores of students, teachers, MTN staff and some members of the community come to donate blood to the blood bank.
According to MTN’s Volta Team lead, Mawuli Katahena, the agenda is to show love to the public by donating blood to help the hospitals and also to instil some communal commitment among students.
Me. Katahena said MTN Ghana is committed to curbing deaths that occur due to the lack of blood in the banks thus it’s ‘Save a life Blood Donation’ project which is organized across the country to mobilize 3,000 pints of blood.
