A Metro Mass Transit bus heading to Accra from Takoradi on Friday collided with a Nissan bus which was heading to Diaso from Accra.
The accident occurred at Ekumfi Dunkwa on the Cape Coast-Accra road.
The injured were rushed to the Winneba Trauma hospital and the Mankessim Catholic church.
10 passengers were confirmed dead while many were injured in an accident that occurred at Ekumfi Dunkwa on the Winneba Cape Coast Highway.
An eyewitness who spoke to Citi News explained that the Yutong bus driver with registration number GN 4368 – 14 was making a wrongful overtaking which led to a head-on collision with the Metro Mass bus.
Meanwhile, the Mankesim Divisional Police Commander Acp Owuahen Agyei Acheampong told Citi News that 10 individuals lost their lives including the drivers of both buses and many others in critical condition.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Winneba hospital mortuary, The injured persons were also sent to the Apam Catholic hospital, Ekumfi Esuahyia health centre and Roman hospital at Mankessim.
Deadly day
Dozens of passengers earlier on Friday died in an accident involving two buses on the Techiman-Kintampo road.
Over 50 people lost their lives while about 60 had several degrees of injury.
The Jaman Police Commander, DSP Ofori Boateng told Citi News that investigations are being conducted by the relevant agencies to unravel the actual cause of the accident.
“It is true there’s been an accident on the main Kintampo-Techiman road. It occurred between 1:40 and 2 am.”
“The two buses collided. investigations will unravel the cause of the accident. As we recover we send them to the hospital,” he added.
The accident involved a VVIP Kia bus with registration number GT 3915- 17 from Garu in the Upper East Region heading towards Kumasi and a Grandbird bus with registration number GT 5694-18 from Accra which was heading towards Bolgantaga also in the Upper East Region.
