An Economist, Kwame Pianim has bemoaned the poor state of Ghana’s development despite its human resource strength.
According to him, the number of Ghanaians in specialized fields is enough to chart the country’s development agenda.
Speaking at the launch of the autobiography of a distinguished entrepreneur, Alhaji Yusi Ibrahim, the renowned economist challenged the status quo of engaging people on ethnocentric tendencies.
He proposed a meritocratic system as a solution to Ghana’s problems.
“If Ghana moves to use its people in a meritocracy base, I think this country will change very quickly. When Kwame Nkrumah started instralisation, we didn’t have engineers because we could count them on the fingers, now there is no field of human endeavor or scientific knowledge when we don’t have careers that excel. So we need to move and use the people irrespective of their tribe, religion, or social standard.”
Many have questioned the recruitment processes and criteria into companies and industries in the country.
Ghana continues to increase its efforts to drive the government’s agenda of moving Ghana from a raw material production economy, into an industrialized one.
The government has introduced some business and industrial intervention programs to ensure the country takes advantage of the international industrialized economy
