Police have recovered a charred body of a 13-year old boy who was burned to death after a dawn fire swept through four container shops near a mechanic shop at Asafo in Kumasi.
The charred body of the boy has been conveyed by the police to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue.
Eyewitnesses say the fire started from the wooden structure the victim was sleeping in and spread to the shops.
The victim has been identified as Koo Emmanuel.
Fire officers were called in to douse the fire which started at about 4 am Friday.
Although the cause immediate of the fire is not yet known, eyewitnesses are suspecting the cause to be candle lit.
The fire also destroyed properties including paints, lubricants and other materials sold in the four container shops that were affected.
Shop owners are salvaging what is left of their belongings from the debris and are counting their losses.
Officials of the National Management Organization (NADMO) say they have begun a thorough assessment of the incident.
Nana Atakorah Koduah, the Ashanti Regional Administrator of NADMO said to the media, “it is thereafter we will be able to speak to the possible cause of the fire.”
“These times, we are in a very serious position because of climate change… the weather cannot be predicted and we are in high temperatures season and therefore the public is cautioned to be careful of the way we handle naked fires,” he added.
