The Environmental Sub-committee of Agona West Municipal Assembly has given Zoomlion Waste Collection Company a two-week ultimatum to improve the quality of service in the area or face the wrath of the Assembly.
Reverend Alex Yeboah, convener of the Committee described the services being provided by the company as unsatisfactory adding that people in the area were unhappy.
The assembly is inundated with complaints about the poor quality of service – piles of refuse left uncollected in many parts of the municipality.
The areas include Yaabem, North Yaabem, Dwenho, Assisim, Nsusosowoso, Wawase, Babianiha, Desueanim, Ankyease Nsawam/Tsentsemhwe, Botwe Estate, Otabilkrom and Mahodwe.
Speaking at Agona Swedru, he said a number of meetings had been held with the Company, where the committee urged Zoomlion to improve services in the area.
As part of the agreement, Zoomlion is to collect the waste regularly in all the about 20 electoral areas but has failed to deliver per the contract.
Rev. Yeboah said there have been instances where the assembly had had to hire skip loaders to collect piled-up refuse.
The assembly had many financial commitments and was eager to ensure that there was value for money in any contract it entered into.
They would not hesitate to abrogate the contract with Zoomlion if it did not improve the quality of service.
