Angry residents at Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region on Tuesday demonstrated against the government over the poor state of roads in the area.
The over 500 residents clad in red marched through the town chanting war songs.
They were also holding placards with various inscription some of which read “no road no vote, fix our road for us, enough is enough among others.
Some of the angry residents who spoke to Citi News explained that the government has fixed the road from Kasoa to Kakraba leaving Gomoa Nyanyano roads.
“The government always fixes the Kakraba road and leave the Nyanyano one, this is bad and it is one reasons why we are demonstrating a resident told Citi News.
They said the roads have developed huge potholes which are affecting commercial transport business.
An elderly resident who only gave his name as John told Citi News that the last time this road was constructed was in 1974.
“The last time the road was asphalted was in 1974 by one Kublenu and ever since this road has not seen any asphalt. All our MPs have disappointed us since none of them has been able to lobby for the construction of this road” John explained.
Another angry taxi driver said the Gomoa East District Assembly initially started constructing the road but has stopped the construction thereby forcing residents of the area to deal with the dusty nature of the road.
“When they started constructing the road they brought a lot of machines to work on it by levelling the road only to abandon it. Dust is killing us on that stretch” the angry taxi driver lamented. “We have written several petitions to the government but all to no avail.”
