The Director of Anti- Human Trafficking Unit of the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) Superintendent Mike Baah asked parents to prioritize the protection of their wards.
The follows the upsurge in kidnapping cases in Takoradi in the Western region which sparked fears among residents.
Speaking on Citi Breakfast Daily on Citi TV, Superintendent Mike Baah noted that perpetrators of human trafficking and kidnapping will not be left 0ff the hook but prosecuted.
“We are not only interested in rescuing the victims and letting go of the perpetrator. We partner with other stakeholders, like the attorney general to make sure the perpetrators are prosecuted to serve as a deterrent. If we only rescue and get them reintegrated, what happens is that these kids can end up being re-trafficking from where you rescue them from. Most of the parents are too busy to take care of their children, we leave them anyhow and the fall prey to some of these kidnappers,”
Three girls in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis and one in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem municipality in the Western Region are believed to have been kidnapped between August 2018 and January 2019.
Three of the victims were reportedly kidnapped by the main suspect arrested earlier this year, 2019.
The suspect, Samuel Udoetuk Wills, is said to be behind the kidnapping of three girls in the Western Region between August and December 2018.
Samuel Udoetuk Wills is currently in police custody and being tried for breaking jail.
He has failed to provide the location of the kidnapped girls.
The Police are currently under public pressure to find the kidnapped girls.
The top hierarchy of the police has given assurances that they will arrest the suspects and find the missing girls.
