Black Meteors head coach, Ibrahim Tanko, has praised the efforts of his players on their progress to their third round of the qualifiers for the U-23 AFCON tournament in Egypt.
The Meteors got a goalless draw on Tuesday in Gabon to qualify 4-0 on aggregate over two legs after winning the first leg 4-0 in Accra on Saturday, March 23.
Speaking after the match in Libreville, Tanko acknowledged the work his players did looking at the circumstances surrounding the two matches.
“I think the players have done well because we played on a very bad pitch in Gabon. We played on Saturday and we flew out the next day together with the Gabonese.
Anyone who saw the game would have noticed that both teams were tired after the first 20 minutes. Then, we had to deal with a red card to Simon Zibo but the most important thing is that we made it to the next stage.”
Ghana will face Algeria in the third round of the qualifiers after the North Africans beat Equatorial Guinea 3-1 on aggregate.
The tie will be played in June and success for Ghana will mean a place in the final tournament in Egypt which will produce four representatives for Africa in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic football tournament.
The Black Meteors are seeking to return to the Olympic Games 15 years after their last showing in Greece.
