Ghana’s Deputy Ambassador to China, Dr. Charles Dwamena, has appealed to Ghanaians to help each other and be each other’s keeper while living as foreigners in China.

The envoy said this when he inaugurated the Ghanaian Community in Wenzhou City of the Zhejiang Province of China.

According to him, there is strength in numbers and that if members of the community are to come together to advance their welfare issues and look out for the interest of one another, they will collectively achieve more success that will impact positively on their various families back home and the country at large.

He encouraged members of the newly inaugurated Community to consider forming partnerships so as to expand their various businesses instead of always going solo and ending up with small-scale businesses.

He informed the gathering President Akufo Addo places a lot of importance on the contributions of Ghanaians in the Diaspora and has therefore set up a well-resourced Diaspora Affairs Bureau at the Presidency to oversee activities of Ghanaians in the Diaspora.

He went on to inform the gathering that the processes leading to the recent reduction in port charges in Ghana started with Ghanaians in the Diaspora who complained of the high cost of import duties to the President on his trips abroad and as a listening President, he tasked his Government to look into it resulting it the eventual reductions.

He mentioned that the 2019 edition of the Diaspora Homecoming Summit, which is an annual event organized by the Diaspora Affairs Bureau, will take place from the 3-6 of July and encouraged all members of the community to fully participate in it to build their networks and explore more investment opportunities in the country.

He used the occasion to advise the over 100 members of the community to desist from illegal employment as the number of arrests and deportation due to illegal work in China has increased several folds in recent times.

The occasion was also used in swearing-in the newly elected officers of the Ghanaian Community- Wenzhou Chapter.

The new Executive Committee is made up of the following people:
1. President – Dr David Percy Papa Akuetteh
2. Vice President – Mr Emmanuel Tackie
3. Secretary- Mr Boahene Adu Agyei
4. Deputy Secretary- Miss Francisca Arthur
5. Financial Secretary – Madam Yasmine El-Aziz
6. Organizer – Mr Frank Attakorah
7. Public Relations Officer – Dr Opoku Williams Marfo
