President Nana Akufo-Addo is advocating unity and peaceful co-existence between the people of the new Western North and the existing Western Region.

Nana Akufo-Addo says this harmony will be useful for the development of both regions.

The President was speaking at a durbar of chiefs and people at Sefwi Wiaso to wrap up his two-day tour of the newly created Western North Region, where he commissioned some projects for the new region’s takeoff.

“The people from the Western and Western Region are one people. We do not want any tension and acrimony between the two regions. We are all one, so let unity and oneness be our hallmark. In unity, we can all develop this country of ours.”

The President inaugurated the Western North Regional Coordinating Council and met with chiefs and opinion leaders.

It was the President’s first tour of the region since its creation.

The campaign for the Western North Region ahead of the referendum, received the backing of both residents in the area and the major political parties, with senior figures from both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) uniting in support of its creation.

The Western North Region eventually received a 99.5 percent overwhelming endorsement from voters in the referendum.

Sefwi Wiawso was later chosen as the capital of the newly created Western North Region.

Meanwhile, the President is currently in the newly created Ahafo Region to begin another 4-day tour.

The President began his tour from Sankore in the Asunafo North District.

‘You’re a promise keeper’ – Sefwi Wiawso Chief to Nana Addo

The Omanhene of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II, has described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a courageous leader who has kept his promises to the people of the Western North Region.

According to the Sefwi Wiawso Chief, for forty-four years, the chiefs and residents in the Western North area had been advocating for a region of their own without success.

He, however, indicated that President Nana Addo ensured that their request for a new region had been fulfilled.

“When you (President Akufo-Addo) came to Sefwi Wiawso in 2016, we put this same request before you. In fact, our inability to get an immediate response from you then made us think that you would not heed to our request. It was until you got to Sefwi Bodi, that you indicated that if we voted for you, you will ensure that our request for the Western North region is granted,” Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II said.

“Many were those who did not believe in you, but you have proven to us that you are Ɔseadeɛyɔ (promise keeper). You are a courageous leader. There aren’t enough words to describe what you have done for us,” he added.
