The Ghana Police Service has once again assured that it is still expediting processes to rescue the three kidnapped Tarkoradi girls.
According to the Service, the public should exercise restraint as it works with partner agencies to get to the bottom of the matter.
The fate of some three girls in the Western Region continues to hang in the balance after they went missing last year.
Although there are reports that the girls have been found, the police had dismissed such reports assuring that efforts to get the girls back home are still on course.
“We can assure the public that we are still working tirelessly with the other partner agencies to rescue the kidnapped girls and that the story in the media space that they have been rescued cannot be confirmed by the police at yet,” Superintendent Sheila Buckman, Director of Police Public Affairs said on Eyewitness News.
“We expect that due to the relations between the police and the BNI, any such information would be shared but as at now the information and the official report I have is that, the story cannot be confirmed. I understand that checks at the BNI do not even confirm that information,” she added.
Families of the three girls who were kidnapped in Takoradi earlier served notice that they will, on May 2, 2019, storm the Police CID headquarters to demand proof that the girls are alive.
Kidnapped girls not yet rescued – Police dismiss reports
The Daily Guide newspaper had reported that the three girls had been found and are currently being given treated at an undisclosed health facility in Accra.
“Sources say they were brought to Accra from Takoradi [Tuesday],” Daily Guide reported.
The Service in a statement said the report is “false and cannot be confirmed by the Police.”
A former Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Bright Oduro (Rtd.) says it is about time an official liaison is appointed by the Police Service for the families of the Takoradi kidnapped girls.
According to him, the liaison officer will serve as a link between the police and the affected families as they search for the girls.
Although the families have shot down claims they have been given liaisons, the police insist it has appointed someone to perform that role.
“Police have assigned liaison officers in Takoradi to coordinate information between Police and the families of the kidnapped girls and encourage family leadership to cooperate with the assigned officers,” Sheila Buckman added.
