The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has challenged Ghanaians and the international community to support the government to achieve the vision of Ghana beyond Aid.

According to him, this will help avoid Ghana’s over-dependence on imports to build a resilient economy.

[contextly_sidebar id=”SWsq1JwZtJGUjtgaoOk0BmrhJMsaaJcE”]Speaking at an Executive Dinner Ball organized at the Manhyia Palace on Friday under the theme “Ghana, a promising investment destination in Africa”, as part of his 20th Anniversary celebration, he assured the international Community that the vision behind ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ is not politically motivated.

“It may seem hugely optimistic but nonetheless we remain truly hopeful that a great majority of Ghanaians will welcome a conscious effort to protect the economy from the bad risk of partisan political conflict. It is in this vein that we have welcomed the vision of the President for Ghana beyond aid. it is not a vision for the faint-hearted.”

“It is a vision that deserves support not only from Ghanaians but from all her friends across the world. In other to appreciate the true measure and the essence of that vision, we must consider our circumstance, we must consider where we are coming from We seek first to assure the international  investment community that Ghana Beyond Aid is a policy beyond political conflict and the world can buy into it without fear of uncertain political risk”, the Asantehene said.

President Akufo Addo has championed his desire to prudently manage the country’s natural resources for the country’s development to be financed without recourse to external assistance; an agenda the President refers to as building ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ to strive to achieve more to improve the fortunes of the country.

Osafo Maafo to head ‘Ghana Beyond Aid Committee’

The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo, was tasked to chair a committee set up to oversee actualization of the Akufo-Addo Administration’s vision of a Ghana beyond aid in May 2018.

President Nana Akufo-Addo announced the setting-up the committee at the May Day celebration in 2018.

The Committee was tasked with drawing up a charter which outlines the steps the country is to take in making Ghana self-reliant.

With a 10 member committee, comprising three members each from the Government (Ministries of Finance, Planning and Employment and Labour Relations), Organised Labour, and the Private Enterprise Federation, the committee was given six months to come up with a Charter on Ghana Beyond Aid.

Meanwhile, the President  has received a strategy document and Charter that outlines the roadmap for Ghana’s to achieve self-reliance and the vision of a ‘Ghana beyond aid’.
