Some students of the University of Ghana have launched a social media campaign to call for better security on campus.

The campaign; #MakeUGaSafePlaceAgain follows the robbery attack on one of their colleagues along the Pentagon- James Topp Nelson Yankah Hall road.

Daniel Osei, a final year Psychology student was on Saturday night assaulted by some unidentified armed men who inflicted machete wounds on his head, hand and leg.

The students who are alarmed by the unfortunate incident have therefore taken to social media to mount pressure on university authorities to take the necessary steps to immediately address the recent state of insecurity in the school.

Dear Mr. President, @NAkufoAddo

The students of the University of Ghana are in danger. OUR SECURITY IS AT RISK. THE EARLIER YOU ACT THE BETTER.

THANK YOU. @paxchoir_ug @UnivGh_VC @VandalsUg @Citi973 #MAKEUGASAFEPLACEAGAIN pic.twitter.com/xkVWDpVbFW

Vice Chancellor Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu had said the management of the university will intensify security measures to reduce such incidents.

UG is under attack. My beloved government is silent. Notre Dame wey ino concern the president, see how fast he sent a tweet. #makeUGasafeplaceagain

What happened to Osei could have happened to anyone.. let’s be careful guys #makeUGasafeplaceagain

Prof. Oduro Owusu said plans have been made for strong collaboration with the Ghana Police Service to beef up security at the university.

I will urge all my colleagues in Legon to take personal security serious. Ahodasoc ne barima#makeUGasafeplaceagain

The UG src president had the confidence to question @knustsrc for demonstrating for better student security and safety

A notice from the leadership of the student body  has also called for calm ahead of their upcoming exams.

This Legon issue needs urgent attention! I was at Pent myself, I don’t know what the authorities in legon are waiting for! If you can’t put security men there, build a wall, block students from using that foot path!🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ why must a student suffer ah?! #makeUGasafeplaceagain

We wouldn’t write any paper till the authorities do something about this. Raise your hands if you’re with me on this one.#makeUGasafeplaceagain

— chewchew🔥 (@chewchewoj) May 6, 2019

The Students’  Representative Council (SRC) asked the management to without delay fix the streetlights on the stretch the incident occurred.

Guys please tell your friends who walk on the Pent-Evandy stretch to be careful
And let’s talk about this till something is actually done about it #Legonisnotsafe #priotizeUGCampusSafety #makeUGasafeplaceagain

— Corleki Chantelle (@Corleki) May 5, 2019

From my analysis, this is actually not the first time a student has been attacked. Are they waiting until someone dies before they take action?.#makeUGasafeplaceagain
