Citi TV and Citi FM presenter, AJ Akuoko Sarpong together with her team that attended this year’s Re:publica in Berlin have received plaudits from participants of the digital society conference.
The five, including Philip Ashon, Apiorkor Ashong-Abbey, Sandister Tei and Nathan Quao, made presentations on the theme “Social Activism and Ghanaian Media: And How Ghanaian Media is Inciting Change Using Digital Tools” in different sessions at the programme.
They touched on how social media has evolved into a tool for communication, reportage, commerce, interactions and most importantly a means for activism by the people of Ghana in recent times.
Their presentations zeroed in on the fight against illegal mining in Ghana (known as Galamasy), the media campaign for continuation of the Abandoned Hospital Projects, Adentan demonstrations over lack of footbridges, campaign for better emergency systems in Ghana, #RedFridays to advocate for the passage of the RTI Bill [#PasstheRTIBillNow], among many others.
Taking to their social media handles, some participants of the conference praised AJ and her team for an awesome presentation of how beneficial social media has been to Ghanaians as far as activism is concerned.
AJ led a team including Philip Ashon, Host of Citi Trends and Head of Production At Citi FM/TV; Apiorkor, Host of CitiScape and Media Content Producer at Citi TV; Nathan Quao, Head of Sports at Citi FM/TV; Sandister Tei, Assistant Programmes Manager, Citi FM/TV.
