The Eastern Regional Police Command has begun investigations into the circumstances that led to a woman allegedly murdering her husband.
The woman, Rebecca Lamptey, struck her 52-year-old husband’s head with a grinding stone
The deceased, Michael Opey Lamptey, was reportedly attacked by his wife while sleeping.
Reports say he bled profusely before his passing.
The incident occurred May 9, 2019, at Aboabo, a community near Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital.
The couple is believed to have been married for the past 20 years.
Speaking to Citi News, the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh said upon receipt of information about the incident, a team of investigators were dispatched to the scene and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood.
He said the suspect will be arraigned soon, adding that the grinding stone had been kept as evidence.
According DSP Tetteh, the suspect will be prosecuted if it is established that she is sane.
“We have the grinding stones she used in killing the man. She herself has confessed… For now, what we are going to do is to do our own investigations and get the bits and pieces to be able to prosecute her. If the report comes and it indicates that she is sane, nothing will stop us from going ahead with the prosecution.”
