The Board Chairman of Lands Commission, Dr. Isaac Kofi Segoe says the Lands Commission’s work is critical in Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis.
Dr. Segoe who said this when he took delivery of office equipment worth about 50 thousand Ghana Cedis from the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication to reequip the burnt Sekondi Stool Lands Administration office, said the office is about 90 operational.
The Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands and Lands Valuation at the Sekondi Lands Commission burnt to ashes last Sunday for an unknown cause which is still being investigated by the Fire Service.
Following a request by the Western Regional Minister, Kobina Okyere Darko Mensah, the Ghana Investment Fund of Electronic Communications, GIFEC, came to the aid of the burnt Sekondi Lands Commission.
The Chief Executive of GIFEC, Dr. Abraham Kofi Asante presenting the equipment which included 10 Desktop computers, 10 UPS, 10 scanners and three printers said it is to help the Lands Commission to fully digitize.
“We are here in response to a distress call following the office fire disaster. We of GIFEC are in the lead of the digitized Ghana agenda of government and for that matter, when it comes to the issue of digitization, we need to make sure that it is as robust as any other thing we do. So, we are giving these pieces of equipment with the belief that it would kick start the process of making sure that the digitize programmes that you have here would continue to work,” he said.
The Board Chairman of Lands Commission, Dr. Isaac Kofi Segoe who received the items with gratitude said the role of the Lands Commission is crucial to the oil industry hence committed to revamping the Sekondi office to full operation.
“The Lands Commission is the administrator of all state and stool lands, and what happened on Sunday was a big calamity to us. Following that, we were impressed upon to make sure that we are in business as early as possible. We gave ourselves Thursday to start business and I can report that as of today, we have started working at a level of about 90 percent. We know the importance of Lands especially in Western Region in terms of Energy and Oil and Gas which is very important. So we cannot afford to lose any time in the administration of land. We are very grateful to GIFEC with their support and believe very soon we shall fully be on our feet as we are thinking of putting up a temporal structure behind the main office block on the premises to accommodate those whose offices have been burnt”.
Meanwhile, a Lands Commission project delegation has today [Friday] assessed the needs of the office while the government has also promised to put a new office befitting the Western Regional Lands Commission Office.
