A reporter with radio XYZ, Wisdom Hededzome is in recovering after he was allegedly assaulted by some city guards operating within the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality.
The journalist was allegedly manhandled by about 10 of the guards who were on duty around Zongo junction at Madina on Tuesday.
He was assaulted by the taskforce undertaking a decongestion exercise at Zongo junction after he demanded to know why they were assaulting the hawkers.
Wisdom Hededzome recounted circumstances that led to his attack from his hospital bed.
“They held me by the waist, pulled me by my belt and kicked me so I was hanging in the air. I then asked him what was the reason for this then he [one of the city guards] told me we should enter the yard. I told him the agreement was to go to the police station and not the yard so I will not enter but he forced me and he called for the others.”
“They were all at the entrance and he pounced on me. One was trying to use barb wire to strike me but someone blocked him. Before I could say anything they dragged me and took my phone from me. They asked me to unlock the phone…At the moment I was panting and helpless. They also threatened to format my phone…I left the place and lodged a complaint at the Madina Police station,” the journalist recounted.
