Lucas Kindl, Deputy Head of mission for the Embassy of the Czech Republic has said his country is seeking to bring new businesses to Ghana to help with industrialization.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, he said Czech companies are looking for new business avenues and Ghana fits into their pick for new exploration for investment.
“We are trying to follow up on economical operation. Right now we are trying to bring more Czech companies into Ghana to help Ghana with industrialization and development because we are aware that Ghana is open for business and investment. The Czech Companies are looking for new markets and Ghana potentially fits into this perfectly,” he said.
He also mentioned that a group of Czech companies had signed a contract for the construction of 50 bridges across Ghana, which is being financed by a Czech bank.
He said Ghana and the Czech Republic have enjoyed a mutual relationship and had co-existed for 60 years now.
“The relationship between Ghana and the Czech Republic goes far. We are not newcomers. This year we will celebrate 60 years of mutual relations. The Czech Republic is the successor country of Czechoslovakia, former Czechoslovakia was one of the first countries to recognize Ghana after its independence and we opened our embassy here in 1959 and we have stayed ever since,” he said.
Last month, Ghana and the Czech Republic signed a 47 million Euro credit facility to provide 50 steel bridges in selected communities across the country as part of infrastructure works.
The Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr Akwasi Amoako-Atta, signed the agreement on behalf of the government in Accra for the design, supply and installation of the small and medium steel bridges.
Under the agreement, the Department of Feeder Roads will have 20 bridges, the Ghana Highway Authority 20 bridges and the Department of Urban Roads 10 bridges.
The project is expected to be completed within a period of twenty-four (24) months from the commencement date.
