The Interior Ministry has issued a public notice declaring Wednesday 5th June 2019 as a statutory public holiday.
The day is being set aside to mark the celebration of Eid-Al-Fitr which is to signify the end of fasting period for Muslims all over the world.
In a statement signed by the Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery, the Ministry called on the public to observe the holiday in all parts of the country.
“The General public is hereby informed that Wednesday 5th June, 2019 Which marks the celebration of Eid-Al-Fitr is a statutory public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement read.
Eid al-Fitr is an important religious occasion celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.
This religious Eid is the first and only day in the month of Shawwal during which Muslims are not permitted to fast.
Eid al-Fitr 2019 in Ghana will begin on the evening of Tuesday, 4 June 2019 and ends in the evening of Wednesday, 5 June.
