Hundreds of protesters on Tuesday joined a demonstration organised by the Free Media Vanguard to register their displeasure over the closure of some media houses in the country.
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has in the past few weeks closed down about six radio stations for allegedly breaching provisions of the country’s electronic communication regulations.
Two major pro-opposition stations, Radio Gold and Radio XYZ were the first batch of stations to be closed down.
The NCA’s action has been described by former President John Mahama as a politically motivated move ahead of the 2020 general elections.
The group has maintained that the move by the NCA is an abuse of its powers and a suppression of press freedom.
The protesters moved from the El-Wak Sports Stadium through 37, to the Headquarters of the NCA at Airport.
The Minority in Parliament backed the protest.
Two weeks ago, the group held a vigil at the forecourt of Radio Gold at Lartebiokorshie in Accra.
