The Kpando District of the Power Distribution Services has carried out a house-to-house disconnection exercise within some communities in the area.
Supported by members of the Revenue Protection section and staff from the Volta Regional Office in Ho, the team led by Ing. Phaney Adiko, Acting District Manager of Kpando District, visited houses, schools, guest houses and some small scale businesses like cold stores in Vakpo, Wusuta, Tsrukpe, Botoku, Nkonya –Ahenkro, Nkonya-Kejebi, and Nkonya-Tepo.
291 of the 402 customers visited in the aforementioned communities were disconnected.
The company accrued a total of GH¢ 212,021.55 from the exercise.
Some 24 persons identified to be engaged in illegal activities like self-reconnection, bypassing the metre and tampering with the metre were also disconnected and served with summoning letters to report to the office.
Speaking to the media after the exercise, Ing. Phaney said the Kpando District had resolved to support the company in dealing with debtors since that was a drain on the company’s resources.
“We sometimes undertake revenue mobilization exercises but today, Wednesday, we decided to embark on this intensive revenue mobilization and disconnection exercise by targeting debtors in our dockets. The exercise was to support the ongoing revenue mobilization in the region and improve the revenue of the district and the company as a whole,” she said.
Ing. Phaney also added that “in the course of these exercises, we also educate consumers on the judicious use of power to cut down their bills.”
She urged the public to pay their bills promptly and desist from illegal connections and also report people who engage in such an act and indicating that the company has instituted a financial reward for whistleblowers.
