A 24-year-old man has allegedly been shot dead by uniformed men in a Police patrol vehicle.

The incident reportedly happened over the weekend around 12 midnight on the Accra High Street close to the post office.

Kelvin Adjetey and his friends were reportedly riding a motorbike from Club House when the incident occurred.

Giving an account of events leading to Kelvin’s killing, a friend, Braimah Mohammed said: “According to reports, they said he was on a motorbike going with his two friends when the Police started giving warning shots so the other friends jumped off the bike.

“He was on the bike going when the Police started shooting at him. When he fell down, the other guys were standing behind watching. They picked the body, put it in a truck and left. They were returning from club house when the incident happened. Everyone in Adabraka knows he is not a thief.”

There have been similar incidents of the Police mistakenly shooting persons they suspect to be armed robbers.

Just recently, the Police shot dead a man at Akweley, Kasoa.

Outraged residents of the area subsequently demanded a speedy investigation into the incident.

Narrating the incident to Citi News, a relative of the deceased explained that the Police Patrol team chased Richard Hihartro, 36, into his family house to arrest him.

According to some family members, one of the Police Officers who was wielding an AK 47 rifle fired at Richard Hihartro, killing him in the process.

“At first it was one officer who chased him to the house and he engaged him in an argument then he called for re-enforcement and two other officers came but I don’t know what he told them then suddenly they started assaulting Richard Hihartro,” the family member explained.

“It was getting nasty so I run away because one of the Police Officer threatened to shoot me if I interfered but upon a second thought I came back when I heard a loud gunshot. I got there only to find Robert Hihartro lying in a pool of blood”, Moro Hihartro added.
