The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George has said he would join the members of his constituency to demonstrate if work does not start on the link road from Dawhenya to Afienya.

Residents in Dawhenya in the Greater Accra Region have given the government 14 days to fix the deplorable nature of the road.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, on Friday the MP said he has done all he could to get the road fixed but all his attempts have fallen on deaf ears.

“In two week time, I will join the member of my constituency, because Parliament is on recess and I have exhausted all my parliamentary options.”

“That road is a road that has transcended the government, from the NDC, the NPP, back to the NDC and now the  NPP. That road has been in a state of disrepair for over 20 years, as Member of Parliament I have filed questions in Parliament to call the Minister to come and give timelines. He gave timelines but he hasn’t met the timelines”

He stated that, in October 2017, he was able to get the Minister and his entire Ministry to proceed with work on the road but work on the road has been put on hold for political reasons.

“In October 2017, I was able to get the Minister and the entire Ministry; the Minister his two Deputies, the Director of urban roads, the Director of highways to come to the site and look at the road. The contractor has been on the roads for years, so let’s ask ourselves why the contractor is not working.”

“It is simple, it is funding, and he is being starved of funds. People from within the constituency are playing politics with the road that is what it is. If they fix that road, it will be said that where Sam George stands, they have fixed the road, so Sam George would most likely win the election, ” he said.

Scores of Residents in Dawhenya in the Greater Accra Region today [Friday] took to the streets to protest the poor nature of the road from Dawhenya to Afienya.

They burnt tyres and blocked the road with a container as part of their protest.

They lamented over the neglect and broken promises successive governments and legislators.

“The road has been in a bad condition for about 27 years now. Presidents come to give us promises but they never fulfil it. Even our MPs who are here come to promise us so many times but they never fulfil it.”

“Our health is more important. the road is really killing us. The dust on the road has been killing us,” one resident said to Citi News.
