An agricultural expert, Kwesi Kroboe has urged Ghanaian farmers in agribusiness to appreciate the value chains in the agriculture sector to maximize output to help reach a targeted market.
According to him, such a move will not only enhance efficiency but will also make it easier for farmers to easily reach the preferred market with valued products.
“At the end of the day agriculture like any other business you trying to create value, you are trying to create wealth you are trying to create employment. The more audience you have the bigger the market. You have to be clear to understand what you have to do to get to the market,” he told the host of the #CitiCBS Bernard Avle on day two of the on-air series as part of the 2019 Citi Business Festival.
Using oil palm plantation as an example, Mr. Kroboe stated that a farmer in agribusiness going into such areas must determine exactly the market audience to influence the kind of palm plantation that will be cultivated.
He maintained that such a critical decision will even influence the soil type that will suitable for the kind of palm plantation as well as the amount of rainfall needed in the area to get the required palm fruit.
“For example if we all agree that there is a market for vegetable oil and I want to go into its production, I need to know for example Where do I grow my palm oil, where do I source my palm oil, where do I site my factory. What kind of market do I want to get to?. You need to ask your elf all these questions,” he said.
Mr. Korboe explained that farmers in agribusiness can even create a niche in the value chain to improve efficiency
