As part of measures to improve quality health care delivery in the region, management of the Eastern Regional Hospital has inaugurated an endoscopy unit at the hospital.
The new unit was established with internationally generated funds from the hospital.
The unit which has been set up by the management of the hospital is to assist clinicians and medical doctors in ensuring accurate and quality diagnosis to improve service delivery.
Addressing a gathering of nurses and professionals at a training workshop organized by Society of Nurses in Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery in Koforidua, the medical superintendent of the hospital Dr. Anim Boamah said the establishment of the specialized unit will improve quality health care delivery at the hospital.
“I should say management took a very bold decision to establish an endoscopy unit and laparoscopy services in the hospital and we did all this with internationally generated funds, we have been able to purchase the equipment some where in December and since then about 300 patients have undergone the procedure and this has gone a long way to alleviate the sufferings of patients in terms of getting accurate diagnosis for their conditions and also the trouble and hustle of going to places like Accra to have endoscopy done”.
Dr Anim Boamah added that endoscopy nurses at the hospital will continue to have refresher courses and training to and up to knowledge and sharpen their skills.
“Somewhere in September to October we will have doctors from Leicester who will come and train and upgrade our doctors who are in endoscopy to sharpen them and make them more competent”.
