The Board of Directors and the Management of the newly established Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), have called on the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, and the Okyenman Council to seek his support for the planned mining of Bauxite in the Atewa forest.

The delegation, led by the Board Chairman Dr. Anthony Oteng-Gyasi, and the Chief Executive Officer, Michael Ansah also used the occasion to brief the Okyenhene on its operations.

The team said it was working to fully harness the nation’s Bauxite resources with deep community engagement, and responsible mining and environmental sustainability.

GAIDEC has currently identified three areas, Atewa in the Eastern Region which falls within the Okyenhene’s domain, Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region and Awaso in the Western North Region.

The Okyenhene applauded the government for developing an integrated aluminium industry.

He urged GAIDEC management to hold regular community engagements and cautioned them not to engage in practices that could pollute water bodies and degrade the environment.

Referring to the Atewa forest, in particular, the Okyenhene stressed the need for sustainable mining practices that will ensure the full protection of the environment.

Dr Oteng-Gyasi in responding to the call said that mining in the Atewa forest and other locations in Ghana will be carried out with very strict adherence to sustainable mining principles.

Mr. Michael Ansah, the Chief Executive Officer stressed the commitment of GIADEC to work in partnership with the communities and other stakeholders, including Civil Society Organisations, guided by globally accepted practice and standards to ensure sustainable development of mining at all times.
