The timely intervention of a police officer of the Ghana Police Service prevented what could have been a fatal attack on his colleague at the Abossey Okai roundabout in Accra.
The incident occurred in the morning when the officer, a personnel of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department, tried stopping about 200 motorbike riders who were in a funeral procession to the Awudome cemetery from blocking the road.
Eyewitness accounts say the officer was pounced upon and beaten up.
The Police officer who sustained injuries on his head was saved by another officer who had a gun on him.
Narrating the incident, an eyewitness said: “They rushed to the Police and started beating him. The Police officer had a big cut on his head.”
This incident comes in the wake of Citi TV’s War Against Indiscipline (WAI) campaign.
The campaign against indiscipline being championed by Citi FM and Citi TV has yielded positive results as more drivers have been arrested for breaking road laws.
Some have already been arraigned and fined between GHc600 and GHc800 to deter other drivers from engaging in indisciplined acts.
The War Against Indiscipline campaign by Citi FM/Citi TV is also aimed at putting pressure on duty bearers to ensure discipline on roads.
#WAI, since it started, has charged citizens to be responsible while reporting other irresponsible drivers by filming them in a name and shame approach.
