The Education Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has been ranked highest amongst ministers described as “ doing well on the basis of policy, deliverance, competency and hard work,” according to a poll conducted by the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh received the backing of 12.2 percent of the respondents.
Other ministers included amongst those with the highest votes included the Ministers of Trade and Industry and Agriculture who received 3% and 5.3% respectively.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh had received plaudits in the past and was notably awarded as the Overall Best Minister of the Year 2017 by the Ghana Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana (EFG).
The plaudits followed the implementation of the Free Senior High School policy.
The findings of the poll also revealed the thoughts of respondents on the work of Member of Parliament.
The poll focused on constituents perspectives on the 275 Members of Parliament.
Respondents were interviewed in 1,375 electoral areas and had a total of 27,500 people taking part in the opinion poll.
The majority of the respondents were male making up 53.3 %, with 46.5% females respondents.
The dominant age group that responded to the poll were 25 to 30 year-olds making up 19.4% of the respondents.
The most popular complaint about MPs’ according to pollers was that they do not visit the constituencies frequently enough.
51.6% of respondents in the Greater Accra Region cited this as their main concern.
46.3% of pollers from the Northern region even claimed their MPs have never visited their constituency since their election.
Contrastingly some respondents had positive comments to make about their MPs like respondents from the Bono and Western region of which 44.8% and 30.7% respectively said their MPs help to find them employment opportunities.
