The Upper East Regional police command has arrested 35-year-old Mbawona Tindana in Kulpelga in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region for murdering his wife and daughter.
The deceased, 25-year-old Abigail Talata Kurug and her daughter, Nyapoka Mbawona age 2, were murdered on Thursday at about 4:30 pm with an axe.
Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ampofo Duku told Citi News the suspect has been charged with murder and will be remanded into police custody.
“Police had information about a man who had murdered his wife and two -year- old child. He had been arrested by the community and then sent to one of the community leader’s house. Residents had massed up around the area to lynch the suspect.”
“They were able to rescue the suspect and brought him together with the deceased persons to Bolga for the necessary action. The charge is murder. He has killed his wife and a two-year-old girl. He was interrogated. He did not sound coherent. He sounded like someone who is mentally challenged.”
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Bolgatanga hospital mortuary for autopsy.
