The trouble brewing among members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asawase Constituency seems unending.
A faction backing a prospective aspirant is accusing executives of the party of bias in the filing of nomination forms.
The group, which largely comprises members of the Concerned NDC Youth in the Asawase constituency, says both regional and constituency executives of the party are creating divisions by preventing an aspirant from contesting the sitting Member of Parliament for the area, Muntaka Mubarak.
The development is creating some tension in the constituency and the group is calling on the national executives to intervene in the matter.
Convener for the group, Fatiu Salihu who addressed journalists in Kumasi accused some of the party executives of masterminding the confusion.
“We didn’t know that it was a plot for the regional executives especially the Chairman, Executive and Organizer who had promised Muntaka that, they will not allow anybody to contest him. What we are simply seeking from the National executives is that they should intervene in the situation at Asawase. We are also calling the national executives to sanction the Asawase Constituency Chairman, the regional secretary, the regional stories and others because they have put aside the laws governing this primaries and doing things in their own interest. We are not running a Kangaroo party.”
Asawase NDC tension
There was seeming tension in the Constituency as party members were divided following the emergence of a new person who sought to contest, Muntaka Mubarak, the sitting Member of Parliament, in the party’s internal elections.
Delegates of the party in the Constituency formed camps to throw their support for Muntaka Mubarak and the prospective parliamentary aspirant, Mabarick Masawudu.
Supporters of the prospective aspirant accused constituency executives of frustrating processes to allow him to pick up nomination forms to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries.
The supporters served notice they would resist attempts by the executives to disqualify Mr. Masawudu from contesting the Asawase MP in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.
