The Bongo District Assembly has disbursed 47,112 Ghana Cedis of its three percent of the District Assembly Common Fund to support improve the livelihood of 66 persons with disability.
The beneficiaries comprising 13 men and 24 women were supported with funding to undertake income generation activities and apprenticeship while others got educational, medical and OPWD support.
Bongo District Chairman of Persons with Disability, Clement Mba commended the government for the increase in the disability component of the fund from 2% to 3 %.
He said the increase will enable more members to access the funds to improve their livelihoods.
“We are going to receive monies in cheques and procurement of items for various activities, such as income-generating activities, rearing of animals, sewing machine and a motorbike to facilitate works of persons with disability”.
He added that an amount of GHC1,800.00 was also approved for the leadership of persons with disability undertake sensitization on issues facing persons with disability and the utilization of the fund.
He appealed to the government for the release of the first and second quarter of 2016 District Assembly Common Fund for persons with disability.
District Chief Executive Peter Ayinbisa said the government was committed to the plight of persons with disability hence the increase in their fund from 2% to 3% to better the lots of members.
He stated that beneficiaries will be issued cheques to withdraw their monies from the bank instead of being paid on the table at the assembly.
Mr. Ayinbisa said that the rehabilitation centre for persons with a disability was about 90% complete and when completed will be furnished to train persons with disability on diverse livelihood skills.
