Citi TV’s War Against Indiscipline campaign has garnered the support of civil society group, Citizen Ghana Movement.

Presenting a letter to the General Manager of Citi FM and Citi TV, Bernard Koku Avle on Tuesday, a leading member of Citizen Ghana Movement, Ato Bonful commended the station for the campaign.

He also pledged Citizen Ghana Movement’s support for sustaining the campaign.

“We commend you highly for your actions especially because it coincides with CGM’s agenda. We would like to pledge our wholehearted support and be an ally with Citi FM/Citi TV in this war against indiscipline.”

“Thank you for your commitment to such an important cause. We look forward to a fruitful relationship with you that ultimately awakens citizens to responsible action and compels our leaders and institutions to do what they are mandated to do.”

The War Against Indiscipline was started by Citi TV in May 2019. It has received massive support from the Ghana Police service.

The campaign is to avert the increasing loss of lives through road carnage due to recklessness and general disregard for traffic regulations.

The campaign is to draw attention to the nuisance caused by drivers and motorbike riders on Ghana’s roads.

The general public has been encouraged to take videos and photos of persons who engage in these offences and send them to the official station’s WhatsApp contact – 0549986996 for onward forwarding to the appropriate quarters.

Fines generated

Government has been able to rake in over GHc 100,000 from Citi TV‘s War Against Indiscipline (WAI) Campaign since the launch in May 2019.

The campaign, with the police service, has seen a lot of drivers arrested and put before court for various traffic offences on various stretches in Accra.

The errant drivers have been slapped with fines ranging from GHc600 to GHc1,000.

#WAI campaign to continue into 2020
Citi TV’s campaign to address the incident of indiscipline on Ghana’s roads will not be stopped any time soon.

This is according to the station’s Chief Executive Officer, Samuel Atta-Mensah who is confident that the collaboration with the police on the campaign will help to restore sanity on the roads.

Speaking on Citi TV’s The Point of View on Monday, Samuel Atta-Mensah said despite the many challenges especially resource constraints that may affect the campaign, Citi TV will ensure that the adequate resources are provided for the police to enable them to undertake their lawful duty particularly in stopping indiscipline of road users.

“As we keep scaling up this operation, we are likely to hit a certain impediment which is the resource question. The police lack certain resources. For us pushing this agenda, there is going to come a time where we have to look at the option of trying to seek assistance for the police in specific areas to help them combat this.”
