The chief of Drobonso in the Sekyere Afram Plains in the Ashanti Region escaped unhurt after some gunmen who blocked a section of the Drobonso-Kumawu road shot at a vehicle he was traveling in on Friday evening.

Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwibisaw, who was traveling from Kumawu to Drobonso noticed that portions of the road was blocked by persons suspected to be robbers.

He refused to stop when the suspected robbers stopped his vehicle.

They fired sporadically as he sped off.

The chief was not hurt, but part of the vehicle was damaged.

The Officer in charge at the Drobonso Police station, Chief Inspector Borbor confirmed the attack to Citi News.

“After he [the chief] bypassed the thing, he called us. We also notified the Kwamahu police and they went to the scene but the robbers had left the scene.”

A vehicle belonging to the Drobonso health centre which was traveling on the stretch also had its windscreen damaged during the attack.

Police say they believe the robbers took advantage of the Kumawu-Bodomase market day to attack unsuspecting traders returning from the market on Friday.

Police suspect some other vehicles traveling on that stretch might have also been victims.
