The German Parliamentary Delegation on Education has commended the management of the Koforidua Technical University for championing women empowerment in Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET).
According to the Parliamentary delegation, the university’s innovative approaches in giving scholarships to young graduates and encouragement given to female faculty members to take up senior positions was the way to go in bridging the inequality gap.
The German Parliamentary Delegation on Education who paid a working visit to the Koforidua Technical University expressed satisfaction with the role the University was playing in Technical Vocational Education Training.
The Chairperson of the German Parliamentary Delegation addressing a section of faculty members of the Koforidua Technical University during a durbar indicated that they will strengthen the collaboration and ties with the university.
“We are all members of the committee on education research and technology innovation for the federal government of Germany and we are here today to learn about how you are implementing technical and vocational education training here in Ghana. We are very particular about technical education because we know it holds the key to self determine and autonomous life”.
“There is a lot that KTU is doing in terms of technical and vocational education training and we know you have some international partnerships with other institutions including Hamplister University in Germany which is very interesting. We believe that the emphasis you have placed on empowering women is absolutely fantastic, essential and encouraging for all societies in the world for women to live a self-determined life”.
She added, “KTU’s approach is positive in a way that is not just training, they are offering people here but also empowering them to be gainfully employed after school and this is highly recommendable and I believe this is something we should all adopt all over the world to bring development and prosperity”.
On her part, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the Koforidua Technical University, Professor Mrs Smile Dzisi who was appreciative of the visit promised to work earnestly with every support and assistance the Institution receives from its partners.
“KTU has benefited from a lot of exchange programs, scholarships and grants from universities in Germany and we have other collaborations and partnerships with other institutions around the world too but the kind of support we have been receiving from institutions in Germany is really great and we intend to continue working with them”.
“We have had exchange programs where our students and faculty members have gone to Germany to receive training and vice versa and it has really been an eye-opener for the beneficiaries. Koforidua Technical University is determined to make sure that students who pass through this institution become self-reliance, entrepreneurs and innovators after school to make a living for themselves”.
