Hohoe: Arrest those who frustrate limited voter registration exercise – NDC

The Hohoe Constituency branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress is worried about the low security at centres for the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

The complaint has been triggered by last Friday’s scuffle at the Electoral Commission’s district office in Hohoe between the NPP and NDC  supporters after the former, challenged the eligibility of an applicant.

Speaking to Citi News, the Hohoe NDC constituency chairman, George Anni Bansah said the police must do more to curtail similar incidents.

“In fact, my disappointment is that, the security agencies have not picked up any of the [individuals who engaged in the scuffle]. The very day we began the registration, they had to create chaos every blessed day so that the problem will stall. When the incident happened, we recorded the lowest registration figure of 113 because the process halted for five hours. I am begging the police men to pick up anybody who misbehaves  so that we can have our registration peacefully.”

Registration brouhaha in other regions

Ashanti: Three persons sustained injuries after members of the NDC and NPP in the Asawase engaged in stone-throwing at the Asokore Mampong Municipal Office of the Electoral Commission.

Properties including vehicles were vandalized during the misunderstanding between both parties.

Central: There were reports of gunshots at the Akweley registration centre which disrupted the exercise.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East in the Central Region and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairman have been accusing each other alleged of firing the gunshots that marred the process.

Accra: Three suspects were detained at the Adabraka Police in Accra for the illegal possession and filling of guarantee forms for prospective voters in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

Reports say the suspects were caught signing the guarantee forms which are solely filled by EC officials for applicants who do not have the required identification cards to register on their own.

‘Limited voters’ registration a sham, reject it’ – PNC to Ghanaians

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has told Ghanaians to reject the ongoing limited voter registration exercise because it has been poorly managed.

The party said the current exercise is a waste of state resources and might not yield the expected outcomes.

National Chairman of the PNC, Bernard Mornah said the Commission clearly showed incompetence on the delivery of the exercise.

“This exercise is a sham, one that is a waste of public resources and will not achieve the maximum benefit. It is one that the people of Ghana must reject because this is not what they have paid for. Parliament has approved sufficient resources to enable the Electoral Commission to conduct a holistic voters’ registration. The manner by which the Commission is going about it is unthinkable. ”
