The limited voter registration exercise in the Obuasi municipality has so far progressed smoothly.
According to the District Officer for the Electoral Commission in Obuasi, Mr. Thomas Biyimba, the only issue they had were concerns over the unstable and unreliable online process.
He added that those issues have also been taken care of.
Mr. Bayimba complained in an interview with the Information Service Department about the rate at which minors turn up in anticipation to register.
This practice he said, though are challenged by agents of the political parties, should not be allowed to fester and told parents to advise their children.
The agents of the political parties who were there to monitor the process at the Urban Council Office of the Electoral Commission also spoke with the team from the I.S.D.
Miss Halidu Sherriftu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said she was satisfied with the registration process but said her challenge has been with the unstable nature of the online process.
This she said has proven to be the only drawback to the whole process.
She praised her counterpart from the NDC for cooperating fully with the process.
On his part, Mr. Edisdon Benard of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said the process has so far been peaceful.
He, however, said the offline process has been able to register more people than the online process.
A visibly frustrated Rachael Afriyie also complained about the long queues at the centre.
There was enough security presence at the registration centre.
The Electoral Commission got the nod to go ahead with the Limited Registration Exercise after its earlier date, 7th June, 2019 was called off after an injunction was filed by one Umar Ayuba.
The exercise, however, started on Monday, 17th June, 2019 and it’s expected to end on Sunday, 7th July.
